A Complete Guide to UF Graduation Photos at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the UF Campus, and More

Planning your UF graduation photos should feel exciting, not stressful. But the reality is this: stadium access, unpredictable weather, crowds, and even slow cap and gown deliveries can make the process confusing.

At Chris Watkins Photography, my job is to guide you through all of that so you can relax, look great, and actually enjoy this moment you’ve worked so hard for.

Below are the most common questions UF grads ask me.

Can we actually get inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for photos?

This is the #1 question for UF grads and fair enough. You want the iconic shot.

Here’s the deal:

  • Yes, we can usually get inside, but access depends on UF’s open-gate schedule, special events, and maintenance.
  • Gates change without warning, but I track stadium access constantly so you’re never stuck circling locked entrances.
  • If the field isn’t open, we still have great options inside the concourses, at the gates, and at prime exterior spots without losing the “Gator Nation” feel.

I handle the logistics. You just show up.

“My cap and gown haven’t arrived yet, do you have a spare set I can borrow?”

Absolutely.

Late deliveries happen every semester, and there’s no need to panic. I keep extra UF caps, gowns, tassels, and stoles on hand just for this reason. Use them at no extra charge, your photos won’t be delayed.

What happens if it rains on our scheduled day?

It’s Gainesville. Rain is basically a personality trait here.

Here’s how I handle it:

  • You get priority rescheduling if weather looks bad.
  • I keep multiple backup day and time options open for this exact reason.
  • If the storm is light or passing quickly, we can shift locations on campus to covered areas while we wait it out.
  • If it’s a washout, we reschedule with no stress, no penalty.

You’ll get the photos you came for. Period.

Can I split a session (and the cost) with my best friends?

Yes, if you want to share the experience, I’m all for it.

Here’s how it works:

  • You can split a full session with up to a few friends.
  • You’ll share the time, but everyone still gets individual grad photos plus group grad shots.
  • The images are delivered in one gallery so you can all access them easily.

It keeps the cost down and makes the session way more fun.

Where can we go that isn’t crowded with other photographers?

Peak season on campus gets chaotic, especially at:

  • Bull Gator
  • Plaza of the Americas
  • Stadium Walk
  • Century Tower
  • The UF Sign

Because I shoot UF grad photos year-round, I know the quiet windows, hidden corners, and timing tricks that keep us out of the crowds.

If you want clean backgrounds without 47 strangers behind you, I’ve got you covered.

Are champagne pops allowed, and do I need to bring my own?

Short answer: Yes, and yes.

UF doesn’t ban champagne pops, but we use good judgment, outdoors only and away from crowds or families.

You’ll bring the bottle, and I’ll help you:

  • Pick the perfect spot
  • Position the bottle so it sprays out and not back onto you
  • Capture the exact moment the cork flies for that classic celebration shot

If you want an alcohol-free option, sparkling cider works just as well.

How fast will I get the photos back? I need them for announcements.

Turnaround time during spring graduation season matters.

Here’s my commitment:

  • Standard delivery: 7–10 days
  • Rush delivery: 3 days (add-on option)

If you need photos for announcements, invites, or social posts, you’ll get them in time.

Can my parents or dog jump in for a few pictures?

Of course. Graduation is a family milestone.

Bring your parents, your partner, your dog, anyone important to you. We’ll get a few polished group shots and still keep the session centered on you.

What should I wear under the gown?

The goal: look sharp without feeling bulky or mismatched.

Here’s what works best:

  • For women: A fitted dress, romper, or top + skirt in UF colors, light neutrals, or black. Avoid heavy sleeves as they bunch under the gown.
  • Keep footwere comfortable, you will be walking a lot! ( Bring sandals, or sneakers so that you can comfortably walk between locations.)
  • For men: A dress shirt, polo, or fitted long-sleeve tee. Khakis or dark slacks work great.
  • Keep footwear comfortable, you’ll be walking a lot.
  • Avoid bold patterns that fight with the gown and your face for attention. (Solids colors work best)

If you want specific styling advice, send me a photo of your outfit options, I’ll help you choose.

How early do I need to book to get a Golden Hour slot?

Golden Hour sessions go fast—especially April 15 through May 5, but also in December.

If you want that sunset glow, book:

  • 4 to 6 weeks in advance minimum
  • Even earlier if you’re coordinating with friends or family

Once slots are full, they’re full. Early booking guarantees the best light of the entire day.
